Just a little background: I graduated from Chico State earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Statistics and a Minor in Business Administration. I was awarded a full ride teacher's assistantship to University of Kentucky in Lexington where I received my Masters degree in Statistics. From there, I worked for a clinical research organization as a Senior Biostatistician. Married for 5 years, eventually it was my calling to settle down, move back to northern California, buy a house, and have kids. I returned to California and taught at Chico State University and Shasta College. Thus, when my first daughter was born, I knew I wanted to find another career that was flexible so that I could spend the time I wanted to as a new mom. Real Estate was my answer. Fresh into the business I knew I could learn the education portion of it fairly easy, but what I didn't realize was how nice a transition it would be for me from teaching at the colleges to "consulting" in real estate. My people skills, communication skills and organizational skills fit nicely into what I needed to become a successful realtor.
Real Estate: Why should a buyer or seller want to hire me as their real estate agent? To answer that question, I would have to reiterate some of the skills that I possess and truly believe to be the reasons why I have been successful. Of course, each individual has their own measure of success but mine is that balance of work and family. Being a part of my kids' school -- volunteering in their classrooms, being able to go on field trips; taking them to their dance and singing classes; being able to be "Cookie Mom" in Girl Scouts because your daughter wants you to. All this and still be able to contribute financially to the family. To me, that is success!!! Getting into real estate was a means of being able to still have a career, but with its flexibility, be able to do the things I want to do with my family. The people skills, the communication skills, honesty, integrity, the organization skills, and the ability to be able to educate others comes naturally for me. I enjoy it and I love the business.
Of course, I didn't say the business is always easy. As all realtors know, it has its ups and downs, but I believe it's the way situations are handled that can alleviate a lot of potential stress. Constant communication with the other realtor, the escrow officer, the lender, your seller, your buyer is a number one priority. Even if you don't want to hear any bad news, it's still important to keep all informed. Being organized, I get all paperwork that I can get done up front if I am listing a property or I get all the paperwork I need from the other agent (or will have to consistently call them until I get the paperwork I need!). Being able to connect with people and educate them, whether they are first time home buyers or sellers or repeat clients or seasoned investors, everyone can always use a "refresher course".
Even with the market a little slow right now, I thank all my repeat clients and referrals that are currently keeping me busy! I can always handle more, though!
Areas of Expertise: My specific area of expertise is finding families their ideal homes. I love selling residential homes. I enjoy the entire process from beginning to end. I enjoy listening and discovering what families are looking for as their true "dream" home. It is often interesting to find how their initial parameters may start to change as they begin their venture in looking at homes to something perhaps completely different. I really enjoy getting to know my clients. Best of all, through this process, in many cases, I have naturally made great friends and loyal clients. Even though this is a business and it's not expected that every client becomes a friend, it's sure a nice and rewarding end result.
I have quite a few investors that I've sold residential income property and to business owners who I've found commercial buildings for. I've done commercial leases. I've sold land. So, I can really sell anything you need. I just may need to do a little more research in areas that I don't do a lot of high volume in. I'll be honest and upfront with you, but I'm not afraid to educate myself, either!
