About Redding
Redding is nestled between the Cascades and the Trinity Alps in northern California. It is centrally located on Interstate 5, just south of Shasta Lake.
The outdoor lifestyle, air quality, affordable housing and low crime rates attract many people from the larger urban areas, thus creating a diversified culture and a growing center of commerce and industry. It is the nationally recognized marketplace of northern California, serving the adjacent counties of Tehama, Trinity and Siskiyou.
Redding has a superb climate due to the fact the elevation is only 550' above sea level. A moderate spring and fall; sunny summers with low humidity; and mild winters that seldom fall below freezing. Summer signals the after-work outing to Shasta Lake and Whiskeytown Lake for fishing, swimming, picnicking, boating, camping, and water skiing. The snow that decorates the surrounding mountains in winter means it is time to put away the boat and dig out the sled, the snow-mobile, or the skis and head for the mountains. The City has a population of 80,865 and is located at the north end of the great Sacramento Valley. It is the largest city between Sacramento and Eugene, Oregon, and is considered the service center of far Northern California.
